OLGA
LEHMANN (1912-2001) Lehmann excelled as an artist even before
she graduated in 1934 Her career was extraordinarily versatile
– from murals, portraiture, she established her reputation also
as an artist in film and TV. She was also a war artist during
the Second World War As a scenic artist she worked for the British
Picture Corporation for six years; she also worked as a costume
designer at the Pinewood Studios for which she was nominated
for the Emmy Prize.

RICHARD
WENTWORTH (1947 – Wentworth, a major British sculptor,
studied art at the Hornsey School of Art. He was Henry Moore’s
assistant in 1967 and completed his MA at the Royal College
of Art in 1970. Worked in Berlin 1993-94. He was one of
the most influential teachers at Goldsmiths

DENNY Born in 1930, Denny was one of the great artists

TERRY FROST (1915 – 2003) Frost became an artist in
his 30s (Camberwell School of Art )though , as a prisoner
of war, was taught by Adrian Heath. In 1951 he was Barbara
Hepworth’s assistant. He taught at Bath School of Art and
became Professor at Reading University. He is the abstract
artist par excellence - and never compromised about it.
His work brim with colour and light and the pleasure of
existence.

HOYLAND (1934-2011) Studied art at Sheffield, followed
by the Royal Academy Schools, where he became Professor
in 1999. He had a solo exhibition at the Whitechapel Gallery
in 1967; a Retrospective at the Serpentine in 1979 and the
Royal Academy in 1999; at Tate St Ives in 2006. In 1982
he won the John Moore Prize.

ANTHONY CARO
Born 1924 Caro has played a leading part in British sculpture’s
20th c development. After sculpture studies at Royal Academy,
he worked as Henry Moore’s assistant but it was his exhibition
in 1963 at the Whitechapel Gallery that he gained public
attention with his large brightly painted abstract sculpture
= a radical departure
Influential teacher at St Martin’s (1953-1981), he opened
up a new world of sculpture worldwide. Travelled and has
been shown extensively worldwide – including Tokyo, New
York.
He
holds numerous honorary degrees from universities in the
UK, USA and Europe. He was knighted in 1987 and received
Order of Merit in 2000
