The Boundary Gallery
is 20 years old. It specialises in two areas:MODERN BRITISH - including BOMBERG,
BRODZKY, EPSTEIN, HERMAN, KESTELMAN, KRAMER, MENINSKY , WOLMARK BOMBERG, EPSTEIN,
KRAMER, MENINSKY AND WOLMARK were artists who formed the ANGO JEWISH art circle
- SONS OF IMMIGRANTS FROM EASTERN EUROPE TOWARDS THE TURN OF THE 19/20TH CENTURY.
They all became leading artists. DAVID BOMBERG is recognised as the leading
expressionist painter of British 20th century art. DAVID BOMBERG believed in
the “Spirit of the Mass” - which he taught at the Borough Polytechnic 1947-1952,
Among his students were FRANK AUERBACH and LEON KOSSOFF. BOMBERG spent many
years in Spain, BOMBERG started his career as a VORTICIST and it was only after
the first World War that he started paining with wide brushstrokes and capturing
landmarks of the Mediterrenean with his rich palette in the EXPRESSIONIST
manner.
MENINSKY
was a superb draughtsman, and a very good painter - though during his lifetime
he devoted himself to teaching. It is only now that his talent is beginning
to be appreciated. He is represented in all the main municipal galleries in
Britain. EPSTEIN, who left his native New York in 1905 and spent his life
in London, is one of the Twentieth Century’s greatest sculptor in Britain.
The Boundary Gallery has organised a number of shows - featuring both EPSTEIN’s
sculptures and works on paper.
EPSTEIN
is best known as a portraitist (bronze) as well as a carver which led to a
number of public commissions including THE SOCIAL CONSCIENCE GROUP in Philadelphia
- USA - and the Cavendish Square Madonna in London among others.
JACOB
KRAMER lived in Leeds and was a great friend of EPSTEIN’s - whose lithograph
of him is available at the BOUNDARY GALLERY
JOSEF HERMAN whose estate the BOUNDARY GALLERY is handling, arrived to Britain
in 1940 and lived here until 2000. Best known for the period in South Wales,
11 years AMONG MINERS OF YSTRADGYNLAIS. The Boundary Gallery has a number
of good EARLY paintings and drawings by JOSEF HERMAN
THE
other area the BOUNDARY GALLERY is specialising is CONTEMPORARY FIGURATIVE
art - with good draughtsmanship and strong palette. Artists who belong to
the BOUNDARY GALLERY’s stable include theSCOTTISH ARTISTS: JUNE REDFERN and
NEIL MacPHERSON; WELSH ARTISTS: PETER PRENDERGAST and DAVID TRESS ENGLISH
ARTISTS: SONIA LAWSON , DAVID BREUER-WEIL, DAVINA JACKSON, MARY COZENS-WALKER
